I saw this event on TV last Thursday morning.
There were a few reasons made me want to go for it. Among others were:
- I was amazed by the art pieces I saw. I wanted to see the real thing.
- One of J’s strong interests is exactly painting. I wanted to expose her more to this.
- I wanted to decorate my home with paintings as the walls now are plain and empty.
- And the theme of the then showcase was nature – one of the things I love dearly.
Well, having said that, the only thing that’s left to do was to take my family to Art Village, the art gallery that organized a group exhibition called “Hijau” – the event that I saw on TV. Hijau is green in Malay. Art Village has two outlets. Main gallery in Kelana Jaya and the other in Bangsar South.
We went to the latter as it was where the exhibition was being held. J was excited about the whole thing. She was extremely happy to see many nice paintings there. She couldn’t stop admiring the masterpieces on exhibit – both by new and established artists.
What about K? He was excited at first when we reached. But later, he got bored and he wanted to go home. Maybe he was tired because that was the time he was supposed to take his afternoon nap. Or he was not interested in the paintings there.
I talked to Kenny Teng, the owner of Art Village, during our visit. His two school-going children were there too. He was friendly and he happily answered the questions I had in mind about paintings. One of the things I would like to find out was if the artists provided art class for children. Kenny said while there is none but the closest thing is workshops that he conducts on an ad-hoc basis. He will keep me informed on future workshops.
Some of the art works there are highly affordable – as low as a few hundreds of dollars. This is in fact aligned with Art Village’s philosophy – to make fine arts reachable to everyone. If you want to buy some paintings, going to Kelana Jaya main gallery is a better bet as I was told there is a wider selection of art pieces there as compared to Bangsar South outlet.
